This has been an exceptionally busy weekend for the Scór community in Tír Eoghain. The Scór season is now in the midst of its busiest time.
The Scór na nÓg All Ireland Finals were held in Sligo I T Centre on Saturday 17th February to a full house in The Knocknarea Arena which is attached to the University College. The arena holds an audience of 1000 people.
Tír Eoghain were represented by Trí Leac in the Tráth na gCeist competition, and were swopping the top two places with the Cornafaen Club from Cavan, who were the eventual winners, up to the half way stage. They then tailed off a little but finished off the competition in a very creditable 5th place out of a total of thirty teams. Six points separated the top five places. This is a very young Trillick team and I have no doubt that they will eventually be crowned All Ireland Champions in this discipline in the very near future.
Later in the afternoon the other seven disciplines were up for contention and followed the normal Scór format. Bearing in mind the best talent from the four corners of Ireland were on show they entertained the large crowd to an excellent evening’s entertainment. Tír Eoghain representatives, Fintona, performed with the spirit and passion which is always evident from clubs when they represent their families, home parish, club and county. Although they did not win on this occasion they were a credit to us all. This experience will stand to them well for the future and are already keen to become involved next year.
Meanwhile the postponed semi-final from Eskra from last Sunday evening was held on Sunday 18th February again in Eskra. The skill and talent was very much in evidence and an entertaining evening was provided for the audience. The County Final will take place on Sunday next, 25th February 2018 at 3.00 pm in Patrician Hall, Carrickmore. A great evening’s entertainment will be on offer and will be ‘a not to be missed’ event
The county winners will then have two weeks to prepare for the Ulster Semi Finals in Burtonport, Co Donegal on Saturday, 10th March at 5.00 p.m.
The Ulster Finals will be held in Silverbridge on Saturday 24th March with the All Ireland finals returning to Sligo I T on Saturday 14th April at 3.00 pm.
