Tyrone set for Celebrations

The Tyrone county board of the ladies GFA will launch their 20^th anniversary celebrations at two very special events in early December.
The December meeting of the county board will be held at Omagh St Endas on Tuesday 6^th while on Friday 9^th the annual county player of the year awards, referee awards and launch of the 20^th anniversary of ladies football in Tyrone will take place at a gala night in Omaghs Terrace Bar.
 
The county board meeting is set for the Omagh clubrooms to mark the official formation of ladies football in the county, the inaugural meeting of the Tyrone county board was attended by ten clubs and by ladies football officials Pat Quill, (the current President),  then development officer Brendan Dardis and national secretary Christy Byrne on November 24^th 1991 at the Omagh venue.
The first Tyrone county board was elected with Rosemary Carson named as the first chair, Briege Groogan was elected secretary and Treasurer was Kathleen Quinn. Its hoped that the original executive will attend this very special monthly meeting. The Omagh club are delighted to play host to the event and a commemorative plaque will be unveiled by President Pat Quill to mark the official formation of the ladies game in the county. Clubs in the county have been asked to send at least two delegates in club gear to the meeting as a special photograph will be taken.
 
The following Friday the Terrace Bar in Omagh will play host to a celebration night for all the county clubs and players, Tyrone band “Chasin Hooley” will provide the entertainment as county player awards, Hall of fame award and other presentations will be made.  County chairman Martin Conway is delighted with the plans in place,
“ Our very generous sponsor Chris McGale has given us the use of his premises for this function, we appeal to all the clubs and players in the county to be part of this very special occasion, the night will be a chance to celebrate but also a chance to look ahead at he next year, we have a lot planned and we hope clubs will buy into the 20^th anniversary celebrations”
Clubs have been encouraged to mark their formation through the next twelve months and the county board will be only to glad to assist in any way they can. The county board have plans for an exhibition, the marking of several key firsts, several tournaments and recognition of those who have played key roles for the ladies game in the county.
 
The County board meeting on December 3^rd is the first official event of this special year and first county Chair Rosemary Carson has fond memories of that first tentative steps
“ We had several teams playing football in the county through 1991 and some people had asked if we could get it formally organised, I had spent several months making enquiries and eventually I made contact with Brendan (Dardis), he was very helpful and after several discussions Pat (Quill) and Christy Bryne, who were great agreed to meet with the clubs. The first meeting was held at St Enda’s and we had Oonagh Celts, Carrickmore, Errigal Ciaran, Aghaloo, Mountfield(Sperrin Og), and I think we had people from St Macartans and people from Clonoe and Kildress. It was a memorable night and its hard to believe its twenty years, hard to believe too how things have grown”
