History on several fronts was made at Tuesdays Tyrone Ladies County convention when Strabanes Martin Conway was elected chairman, becoming the first man to take the post, the first Strabane man in this high office and of course he joins Strabanes Ciaran McLaughlin who is the current cathaiorleach of Tyrones county board. A big honour for Conway and the Strabane Sigersons club.
Conway who had served as development officer for two years in Tyrone was elected unopposed at Tuesdays meeting that was well attended by all the counties 35 clubs at Cappagh. He replaces Brenda Mellon who stood down after two years in the hot seat.
Fellow Strabane man Ciaran McLaughlin was in attendance to see history made and he commented that integration was the key to the future in Tyrone,
” No matter what other counties are doing we are  going to press ahead with integration, theres a need to move things on and we will lead, theres already plenty of crossover with several ladies county board representatives on various county committees already”
Tyrone delegates looked over a successful season, tributes paid to the Tyrone ladies who reached the all Ireland senior final and Omagh ladies who will play in the all Ireland ladies junior club final next week while several motions and recomendations were made in a packed meeting.
There were limited changes to the executive on the night with Maggie Skelton remaining as secretary, Eleanor Fox as Treasurer and Patsy McCrory as Vice Chairman, Paddy Hunter returns as PRO while Ashling Doyle continues to head up the fixtures committee.
Speaking after his historic election Mr Conway spoke of his delight and plans,
” Onwards and Upwards will be our mantra at the Tyrone ladies , we will be planning to build on what was achieved this year and its all about progression, Tyrone are the pace setters in Ulster and so it will remain”
