Saturday 9th November saw the culmination of weeks and months of work by many of our young Gaels in Tyrone who sought county titles in the Scór na nÓg competition. The Community Centre in Kileeshil was a fitting venue to hold such large numbers of participants and spectators. St …..Kileeshil were excellent hosts with the hall prepared and refreshments on ready supply for competitors and spectators alike.
Proceedings started with the Tráth na gCeist at 3:00pm where 14 were clubs vying for the coveted title. Cumann Naomh Pádraig, an Eaglais were the victors with Errigal and Kildress having to go to a tie breaker to decide second place.
The on stage performance started at 5:00pm with a very full programme of 6 clubs competing in each of the seven disciplines made up from 20 clubs across the county. The audience were treated to the very best entertainment with competitors ranging from eight to seventeen years of age. The high level of participation reflects the a strong commitment in clubs to promote culture and has been benefited by the decision to return the Scór na Óg competition to the Autumn time of the year. With this return to high numbers of entrants it looks like there will be a preliminary round included in next year’s Scór a nÓg programme to give everyone an additional opportunity to get experience of performing on stage and enjoy the experience.
