Scór na nÓg
The Ulster Final of Scór na nÓg was held in Galbally Community Centre on Saturday 14th January. Despite the very poor weather the event was extremely well attended with a capacity attendance in the hall and every seat occupied with many more standing round the walls. There were upwards on one thousand people in attendance.
The hall was beautifully decorated as is befitting an Ulster Final. Michael Hasson, Uachtarán, Comhairle Uladh, Anton Mac Gabhan, National Scór Chairman, Siobhán Ní Chuana, National Scór Secretary as well as officials from all of Ulster’s nine counties attended the event.
Full praise and recognition of the efforts and presentation of the Galbally club is due to the Galbally Committee and their many stewards who worked at the event from early on Saturday morning until the hall was cleared and left ready for its next event shortly before 11.00 pm on Saturday night.
Tír Eoghain were crowned Ulster Champions in Ceol Uirlise with Domhnach Mór N Padraig following from their National Title won in 2016 in Killarney. Both the Rince Foirne groups from An Ómaigh and Baileád Ghrúpa from Coill an Chlochair acquitted themselves with distinction as both groups came second in their events. This must auger well for the future.
The next step for Domhnach Mór will be an appearance at the All Ireland Finals in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast on Saturday 11th February at 3.00 pm. Also competing in the All Ireland Finals in the Waterfront Hall will be the quiz team from Augher St Macartans. This will be a busy time for both these clubs as they prepare for this big occasion.
Tickets for the event should be ordered from Coiste Cultúir agus Teanga on or before Friday 20th January 2017. The earlier the tickets are ordered the better the quality they will be. Tickets are priced at €20 for adults and €10 for children Under 16. Notification about tickets will also be issued to Club Secretaries early this week. Information will also appear in the local press this week.
Scór Sinsear
As ‘Scór’ is still in mid-season the venues for the first round of Scór Sinsear have been fixed for St Eugene’s Hall, Newtownstewart on Friday 3rd February starting at 7.30 pm. The second first round will be held in Cookstown Parochial Hall on Sunday 5th February also at 7.30 pm. All clubs, especially clubs that do not normally take part in Scór, are encouraged to make a huge effort to take part and enjoy the experience. As Tír Eoghain is still at the top of the Roll of Honour for All Ireland titles it is important that we remain there and it is only with active participation that we will be the position.
