Westmeath stand between Tyrone and the national league title this afternoon here at Healy Park, and it will be a meeting of two sides very familiar with each other. Earlier in this years league campaign Gerald Gribbens side beat Westmeath but neither side will take much from that encounter says the Armagh man who is guiding Tyrones fortunes this term.
“ Yes we beat them and a similar performance would be great today but both teams will have new faces on board and we both have experienced players back so its hard to say if that win will have any baring on the outcome here”
Its set to be a showpiece for Tyrone and Ulster camogie, the Tyrone girls the only Ulster team to make it to the finals, appearing before such a high profile football fixture is indeed a massive boost for the sport
“ Indeed it is, when it was first talked about we jumped at the chance, it will maybe put some pressure on our girls but I am confident they will handle that, its great to be at Omagh and play in front of a big crowd, its also a boost for the sport, a chance to showcase camogie away from the heartland of the sport in Tyrone, I hope the supporters get behind us though”
Westmeath under the guidance of Noel Boyce welcomes back several players from the Raharny club, one of Leinsters hotbeds of camogie and Tyrone says Gribben who took over from Benny Brunton at the end of last year is well aware of the challange that lies ahead,
“They will have some very good players back, but there will be an experienced look to ourselves as well, our build up has been good and after the Ulster success of 2009, going close in the all Ireland and winning the 5th division title in the league the progress is steady, its on an upward turn alright, I just hope we can deliver today”
The Ulster campaign is just around the corner now too for Tyrone, but says the manager the players have only the focus on this league decider with Westmeath,
“ We cant afford to take our eye of the ball, we want to get our hands on silverware but bearing in mind its only April, we perhaps have an eye as well on the Ulster and all Ireland series later in the year, what a great stepping stone though a national league title would be.

Beat Carlow 4-12 to 0-7, lost to London 2-4 to 1-7 and beat Westmeath 2-7 to 3-3 setting up todays final.
