Ulster Vocationa Schools Quarter Final
Tyrone 2-13 Cavan 2-08
—————-
The Tyrone Vocational Team set up a semi-final tie with Monaghan following a 2-13 to 2-08 victory at Donagh on Thursday afternoon. Tyrone got off to a good start leading 0-8 to 0-2 at the short whistle though some wasteful shooting saw them register a total of eight wides in this period.
Cavan responded in the second half and immediately scored 1-02 to leave one point between the sides. Their goal followed a bizarre sequence of events when Cavan were awarded a penalty, missed it, and in the ensuing action were awarded another penalty, which they subsequently scored.
Tyrone dug deep and responded with two goals in quick succession through Enda McGahan and Mark Bradley.  Tyrone continued to dominate after this and opened up an eight point lead. With 10 minutes remaining a Cavan goal reduced the deficit to five points but two points in reply for Tyrone arrested any further comeback by Cavan.  Cavan finished the game with two points before the final whistle.
An encouraging start for Tyrone who coped well with Ruari Mullan’s sending off, half way through the second half, in what appeared to be harsh circumstances. Shea Coney put in a good shift in the middle of the field, while up front Tony McCann and Mark Bradley showed up well. Daniel McNulty at 6 held his position well, showed good distribution throughout the contest and he was adeptly assisted in defence by Ryan Hammill.
Monaghan await Tyrone in the semi-finals in a tie which will be played in early December. In the other semi-final Donegal are due to meet the winners of the tie between Derry and Down
