Tyrone’s under 16 ladies have beaten Armagh this afternoon at Garvaghey in the first group game of the Ulster championship. The home side dominated for long periods but only led 2-6 to 1-5 at the break, a rather short half after the referee blew it up after 25 minutes. Amy Coyle and Meave Mallon with the goals but Tyrone also were guilty of some poor finishing too and could easily have been far further ahead.
Armagh had finished the half well and started the second well too but Slainne McCarrolls goal steadied the Tyrone nerves but going into the final eight minutes only three points separated the sides again and Armagh looked on course to salvage the game when they were awarded a soft enough penalty.
Armaghs Blaithan Mackins shot though was superbly saved by Laura Kane before Dearbla McDonalds goal ended any hopes of a comeback It finished Tyrone4-9 Armagh 3-6 with Tyrone facing a long trek to Down in the second group game.
