Walk of Hope – Strabane
Walk of Hope – Strabane

Following the withdrawal of the Strabane Darkness Into Light Walk this year – organisers have regrouped and collaborated with many local stakeholders to organise a new event.

The Walk of Hope will take place at 9pm on Wednesday 21st June 2023 from the usual starting point –  Melvin Sports Complex in Strabane.

Strabane and its neighbouring towns and villages are witnessing the devastating impact of addiction, poor mental health and suicide.  The purpose of this walk is to raise money for local mental health and addiction facilities which will directly benefit the community, and to give local people an opportunity to come out and walk in solidarity with those who are suffering.

The 21st of June is the Summer Solstice which marks the beginning of summer.  It is also the longest day of the year and we want people to remember that there are always brighter days ahead and that light brings hope.

This year we have chosen to support The Koram Centre, Strabane Health Improvement Project and The Northlands Centre.  These organisations provide critical services locally and their representatives are rooted in our communities

We would encourage all Sports Clubs, Community Groups, Organisations, Businesses, Schools and individuals to take part in the Walk of Hope next week.  Participants are asked to dress in brightly coloured clothes, feel free to wear club colours, uniforms, or anything bright, we want everyone from the community to be represented.

Please come to Melvin Hall where you be asked to make a donation (minimum £5 pp or £15 per family).  We will set off at 9pm and finish our walk back at Melvin where there will be light refreshments  provided.
